Chapter Four

Jayden’s body was humming from the low-level state of arousal he’d been in for hours now. Esteban had been as good as his word, and had secured permission from both the GRL organizers and his GM, Trevor, to be able to attend this evening’s function as his companion. His attentive proximity had been playing havoc with Jayden’s control all night.

It hadn’t helped that the evening event involved dancing and even some half-naked eye candy. He was far from the only interested onlooker in the place but he was, gratifyingly, one of the few people in the room who seemed to have a date. He’d been worried that Esteban might feel constrained or cautious about being seen with him. However, that had turned out to be the furthest thing from the truth. He’d stood in line to get Jayden drinks, cozied up close while taking in the entertainment and danced pressed up against him—so close that he could feel his partial erection rub against his own.

Jayden couldn’t get over the fact that there would obviously be photographic evidence of their date, too. For some reason, while they had been out on the dance floor together, mobs of women had kept taking their picture. Through it all, Esteban had taken everything in his stride, being gracious enough but basically ignoring the outside distractions, focusing entirely on Jayden. And Jayden had happily followed his lead.

He’d finally met and talked with some of the other attendees and had even managed to connect with a couple of people he ‘knew’ online. They seemed so happy to meet him, and for the first time since he’d planned to come, he finally felt one hundred percent sure about being there. They’d talked about the following days’ offerings and even made plans to meet up at a few events. Between that breaking of the ice and Esteban’s charismatic presence, he was just about floating as they said their goodnights and headed to take the elevator down to The Level.

Esteban watched him with hooded, sexy-as-fuck eyes, toying with his fingers in a loose hold while they rode the short distance to his floor. When the doors opened, they clasped hands naturally and held them all the way down the hall to his door.

Jayden’s hands were trembling just a bit when he fumbled with his lanyard, trying to find his room key. Esteban beat him to it, using evidently his pass key to open the door.

Not sure why he was suddenly so nervous after being so confident and happy all day since their encounter at lunch, Jayden strode into the room ahead of Esteban. The sound of the door closing didn’t come when he expected, and he turned to the door. Esteban was still in the doorway, holding it open.

“Can I come in? Or…?”

He met that increasingly familiar peridot gaze across the room and felt badly for perhaps ruining the mood. “Yes, please do. I’m sorry. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. I just… When we got back here, I wasn’t sure what you expected.
